Hi, I'm Cass. Welcome to Wild Range.
I spent 25 years in the outdoor industry and then in higher education as a professor, studying and teaching how people connect with nature. In 2025, in a season of unexpected change and reflection, I found myself wanting to do that work with my hands in the soil. Wild Range Flower Farm is the result: a small, chemical-free flower and honey farm in the Wasatch Mountains, and my way of bringing together two things I'm passionate about, science and connecting people with nature.
It started small. In 2021 it was a backyard hobby, mostly vegetables and a few flowers. But as I researched the floral industry, I was stunned to learn that nearly 80% of flowers sold in the U.S. are imported, often grown with heavy pesticide use under largely unregulated conditions. Scientists are increasingly uncovering what that means for pollinators and for human health.¹ At the same time, a growing body of research shows that flowers themselves can support our wellbeing.²
Then the bees gave us a surprise. My husband, Jon, is the beekeeper behind our honey, and we had lost hives to disease in the past. In 2025, after the first flower field went in, we harvested over 30 gallons of honey, six times more than in years past. That jump made us ask how we could support pollinator health even more intentionally, not just by planting lots of flowers, but by timing cover crops and choosing specific flowers to help build more resilient hives.
Bees sit right at the intersection of human and environmental health. They pollinate the vast majority of flowering plants on Earth, and the wellbeing of people and the places we live is tightly linked. Wild Range is a small-scale experiment in what becomes possible when you build a place around beauty, health, connection, and the ripple effects that follow.
I used to tell my students that wild spaces help humanize us. They invite us to slow down, pay attention, and become better stewards of the earth, of ourselves, and of our communities. Whether it's a hummingbird hovering over the flowers or someone's face lighting up when they receive a fresh bouquet, I'm reminded daily of the joy that grows with a little intention and attention.

We nurture the soil using regenerative methods including the use of cover crops, diverse planting, and composting.
As a host to two hives, every flower on our farm is grown without chemical pesticides or synthetic fertilizers to ensure our bees and native mountain pollinators thrive.
We treat our mountain water as a finite resource, utilizing drip irrigation to provide our seasonal blooms exactly what they need while minimizing waste.
